The Volkswagen brand has been on a quest to make every surface of their Volkswagen vehicles sustainable and environmentally friendly. To help with this plan, the brand has started a partnership with a German startup company, Revoltech GmbH. This startup uses 100 percent bio-based hemp to create a leather alternative that will make your Dublin or Perkasie drive outstanding and sustainable.
Right now, the team of Volkswagen developers and Revoltech GmbH designers are in the predevelopment phase, trying to create something that is sustainable, innovative, and enjoyable. Andreas Walingen, the Head of Strategy at the Volkswagen company, said, "The sustainable use of resources is a key pillar in our ACCELERATE strategy and is therefore firmly anchored in our mindset and our actions. Our clear goal is to fuse customer wishes, sustainability requirements, and corporate interests."
How is this happening? With imitation leather.
Imitation leather is made from industrial hemp, which is an all-natural, 100-percent biological single-layer surface material called LOVR™. LOVR stands for leather-free, oil-free, vegan, and residue-based. It takes the hemp fibers and a bio-based adhesive and processes it into a surface material. This material is being looked at to be used as the inner surfaces for future Volkswagen vehicles. What makes things even better, is that this LOVR material is the residue of the hemp industry, meaning that it's truly recyclable and can be composted.
