When choosing a new vehicle, safety is an important factor. If the unexpected happens, you want to know that your vehicle will better protect you and your passengers. A vehicle that will help keep you and your passengers safe is the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta.

To give shoppers around Furlong, Castle Valley, and Buckingham, Pennsylvania, an idea of the Volkswagen Jetta model's safety rating, Fred Beans Volkswagen of Doylestown has put together this review.

Volkswagen Jetta NHTSA Safety Ratings

The first safety rating we'll look at is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 5-Star Safety Ratings. This test rates vehicles to see how they do when in various crashes, including frontal, side, and rollover resistance. You can even find out if a vehicle has any recalls.

The Volkswagen Jetta tested had front-wheel drive and scored an overall 5-Star Safety Rating of five stars. In the Overall Side Star Rating, the Volkswagen Jetta scored five stars. There have also been no recalls of the Volkswagen Jetta.

Volkswagen Jetta IIHS Safety Ratings

The second safety rating we're looking at is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Safety Ratings. The IIHS evaluates two things: Crashworthiness, and crash avoidance and mitigation. Crashworthiness is how well the vehicle protects those inside it during a collision. Crash Avoidance and Mitigation is about testing the technology that lessens the severity of a crash or avoids it.

The IIHS Safety Ratings use a lettered system, G (Good) being the best, and P (Poor) being the worst when it comes to Crashworthiness. On every Crashworthiness test, the Volkswagen Jetta received a G.

When grading the Crash Avoidance and Mitigation testing, IIHS uses a grading system of Superior, Advanced, or Basic. Superior being the best. When looking at front crash prevention, vehicle to vehicle, with the optional Front Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking, the Volkswagen Jetta scored Superior, with optional equipment.

Safety Features

Now that you've gotten a look at how well the Volkswagen Jetta did on these safety tests, let's look at some of this sedan's safety features. The Volkswagen Jetta comes with a host of safety and driver-assist features, which include:

  • Standard Rear View Camera System-Use this wide lens to help you back up. You can see obstacles behind you, so you know when it's safe to pull out of your parking spot or driveway.
  • Available Automatic Post-Collision Braking System-After your vehicle is in a crash, this system slows your vehicle down to prevent it from hitting other cars and causing additional accidents.
  • Available Blind Spot Monitor-When you change lanes, this system can alert you if cars are in your blind spot. If you also have Lane Assist, the system can also steer you back into the center of your lane if there's a vehicle in your blind spot.
  • Available Lane Assist-If you're driving over 37 Miles Per Hour, this system can sense if you drift into another lane without a turn signal. It will even correct your steering, so you remain in your lane.
