Performance
The first and most important question is, how does the 2019 Atlas drive? The answer is: extremely well. For a large crossover, the Volkswagen Atlas can move. Its boxy design may not appeal to all drivers, but we found the Atlas surprisingly light, stylish, and easy to maneuver.
The Atlas S, the base trim level, sports an engine that's anything but basic. The inline-four front-wheel drive model navigates easily through heavy traffic, and the 8-speed automatic shifting capabilities give you maximum car control. In upper trim levels such as the SEL and SEL Premium, you can upgrade to the V6 engine, which takes full advantage of the Atlas' potential 276 horsepower.
Special Interior Features
Once
you know how the Atlas drives, your next question might be, "How
comfortable will my family and I be in this car?" The Volkswagen
responds to this question with some serious interior space upgrades. All
trim levels, including the base, have room for up to seven, and that
includes adults and children. If you choose to keep an eye on the kids
from the back seat, the second and third rows have enough legroom for
adults. Extra cargo space also means you won't have to sacrifice
important luggage for comfort.
Operating
the Atlas from a comfortable spot is a breeze as well. The touch screen
and controls have been designed with crisp, easily read graphics and
reachable buttons. You won't have to fumble through several buttons or
screens to command your devices or on-board technological systems.
Two-zone climate control is standard while 3-zone control is optional on
most trim levels, so you and your passengers will ride at temperatures
perfect for everyone. Meanwhile, the impressive seventeen cup holders
provide everyone with space for their drinks on a road trip.
Infotainment and Security
The 2019 VW Atlas has several state-of-the-art infotainment and security components. If you choose trim level SE or above, your car comes equipped with Car-Net Security & Service. This suite provides automatic crash notification and roadside assistance should you ever have an accident. It also provides your last parking location, so you never lose the car in a crowded lot, and many other remote-access features.
A 6.5-inch touch screen is standard, but this expands to eight inches when you upgrade to a trim level like SEL or Premium. In addition, upper trim levels come with additional USB ports and radio speakers. If you choose the Premium, you'll be able to use the Digital Cockpit gauge cluster, which comes with such features as navigation.
